What is Desktop Resetter?

Desktop Resetter is an easy-to-use program designed to store (remember) the icon and window locations and sizes on the desktop (including popup windows). This information can be restored (reset) at a later time, should they change or move, etc.

Some programs tend to either change resolution or somehow cause things on the desktop to scatter randomly, mostly to the top left corner of the screen. Crashing will also cause your desktop items to lose their locations. Putting everything back is a tedious task, one that you'll never have to worry about again when you have Desktop Resetter to the rescue =) You may also find this program useful if you play games or change resolutions frequently.

To use, simply lay out the desktop items the way you like them, and store the desktop's current setup by pressing 'Remember'.

Should your desktop become corrupted, launch Desktop Resetter and restore the layout instantly by pressing the 'Reset' button. The windows and their sizes will snap back to the way they were, as will the icons. If a window was inadvertently closed, it will be reopened.

Third party video boards like 3Dfx cards cause the icons to scatter all over also, as well as multiple monitor configurations. Desktop Resetter is the perfect solution for this.

A good idea is to keep an alias of Desktop Resetter handy in the Apple menu or on the Desktop so that you can easily launch it and remember or reset the desktop instantly.

Desktop Resetter is an application only, it uses no extensions or control panels. This helps reduce the possibility of it conflicting with other programs. It only operates when you launch it and doesn't effect any applications other than the Finder itself (the desktop application).

Desktop Resetter 2 introduces support for popup windows (OS 8 or higher). It can now remember their sizes and positions so they can be restored later on. If they are closed, they will be reopened and made into a popup window again. This is very helpful, these windows tend to be unintentionally reorganized frequently.
